Letter from President - Prof. C.J.Shishoo
	I am happy to know that the Gujarat State Pharmacy Council is launching a website of its own. I am sure this website will provide information to all the practicing pharmacists of Gujarat. This website will work in unison with the website of FDA of Gujarat. A pharmacist is a very important member of Health Care team. In a country like India where ratio of the practicing doctors per million of population is very unfavorable, the role of pharmacist can be very important in dispensing correct information to the patients. Modern drugs are highly potent and can save lives, improve the quality of life. But the drugs have to be prescribed, dispensed and used with utmost care. Otherwise these drugs can do more harm than good. It will be the endeavor of Gujarat State Pharmacy Council to make available all the necessary information readily through the website to the pharmacists of the state, in order to make the use of drugs safe and effective. Every effort is being made by the Council to make the registration process speedy and painless. Towards that end the Registration Form and the list of the supporting documents can be downloaded directly from the website. The website will also provide, o A complete list of registered pharmacists as well as their professional addresses. o A list of pharmacy colleges, their addresses and the current status of recognition by PCI Over the time, the Council will be able to provide up-to-date information about the licensed drugs, prescription drugs, OTC drugs, schedule-X drugs and the medical devices. The Council will be making available the latest information about the adverse drug reactions of drugs, especially the newly introduced drugs. It may be mentioned that sharing of information should be authentic, accurate, topical and updated. Information sharing has to be interactive. Therefore, we will welcome inputs from all our registered pharmacists who are engaged in various facets of health professions like retail and wholesale trade, drug manufacturing, drug testing, clinical pharmacy, teaching and research. I trust the website will be able to fulfill all the expectations of the practicing pharmacists of Gujarat. I wish and hope that pharmacists of Gujarat whether engaged in retail, hospital, manufacturing drugs or testing of drugs will benefit from this website and contribute to make Gujarat healthy. I take this opportunity to congratulate the Registrar, Gujarat State Pharmacy Council and her entire team for designing this website. I extend my special thanks to Mr. Rajnish Mahajan, Senior Technical Director & S.I.O. and Mr. Amit Shah, Senior Systems Analyst of National Informatics Centre, Gujarat State Unit for their co-operation and contribution for development of software and website of the Gujarat State Pharmacy Council.
